Christoph De Boeck

Christoph De Boeck explores spaces through sound, e.g. by applying transducers to solid media. Disembodied electronic sound is reintegrated into heavy materials, like the resonating sheets of steel in ‘timecodematter’ (2007), which is an interactive installation (solo work) as well as a concert (‘time code matter II’, in collaboration with Yves De Mey). Sound is approached as a visual and tactile medium.

Christoph De Boeck is also co-artistic director of Deepblue, an interdisciplinary production structure founded in 2002. Within this structure he has authored, in collaboration with Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki, concepts for performances and he developed spatialised installations for data and audio for those performances. Their most known work is ‘you are here’ (2008), which distributes objects, sound and text amongst spectators by means of archive boxes. De Boeck also produced sound design for immersive cinema (Crew/Eric Joris) and collaborates with Patricia Portela. He teaches in the Media Arts department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent.
